The only shrine that can be negative (from my reading) is the Healer's shrine. This isn't permanent, however, and due to the four +2 stat shrines, along with enchanted and hidden shrines, I think that it more than makes up for it to use cauldrons. I do so myself, and I haven't even hit a Healer's shrine yet. =)
