What does "Deflects monster damage" do?

I have noted it on Cat's Heavy Fur and Some Jest's items, but I noticed Luciferus with -30 DFE seems to reduce more damage.

My thief uses Luciferus and Future Vision and pretty much doesn't get hit for more than one damage in Nightmare. =)

I don't know about the deflection, but possibly it acts as thorns and does damage to the attacking monster?

Deflects monsters damage is different from - MONSTER ATK DMG
I guess sometimes you just ignore the damage, but not always

But I'm not sure.

..but looks like it didnt work at all :( does it?

And if I get two "dmd" items - they will cooperate? (quater damage)?
