But here's another one:
Neria, in one of her speeches, says:
"Many times it may happen to see things or find items that we don't understand."
Maybe it should be "Many times it may happen that you see things or find items that we don't understand." |
That means one and the same...
that "to" is simply a short form of "that you"
by the way in correct english there is also a "will" after the "you"
all in all there are many things shorten in the english language (sure there are some in your home language, you simple don't notice it). E.G. you will say more often "Doing so can cause...." instead of "When you do this it can cause...."
To topic:
One of the speaches of Kryo is still only a sound of Farnham^^
And on of his speeches beginns with "I see long battles in an enless war. ...
I'm sure you mean endless...
And do you mean, that he sees that or if he has already seen it? If last it would be "I've seen long battles...." _________________ German Website about SoM and SoM2

I'm sure there are many "short forms" in English, for many words. "Do not" and it's short form "don't", "will not" and "won't", but still that sentence sounds strange to me. I had never heard of "to" being a short form of "that you".
I looked for anything related to it in the grammar books and even in the dictionary I have here. According to them, "to" can work as an Adverb or as a Prepositon. Of course, I'm not saying those books are 100% correct and all what they say is true, I'm just saying what's written on them.
"Many times it may happen to see things or find items...".
As I understand it, "It" is working as a subject to the verb "see". The NPC(as I understand it) means the player will see those thing. So being, the subject should be "You" instead of "It".
Using simple English in order to leave no doubts it is correct, perhaps it should be something like:
"Many times you will see things or find items..." |

Yes, but in this case that is not a short form like you discribe there...
Anyway my correction was also wrong when I think about it....
When shortened it has to be "... happen seeing things or finding items..."
That shortening is with the ing form not with "to" (also I thought I heared something like that, but I'm not sure in which connection^^) _________________ German Website about SoM and SoM2

As for the sentence, in my opinion it sounds a bit dodgy.
"Many times it can happen to see thing or items that we don't understand." - I wouldn't combine "Many times" with "it can happen". In a more concise manner, I would use either one of the following:
"Many times, it's possible to see things or items that we don't understand." or I would even take away "many times" in the beginning of the sentence, because it's not a common phrase to begin an English language with, in my opinion : )
"It often occurs that we see things or items that we don't understand." - would be my best guess. I hope it helps.
Or a simplified version:
"We often see things or items that we don't understand."
I hope this helped.

Yes, it's a good suggestion too. But still I think the subject should be "you" instead of "we" (npcs don't go to hell for items, and neria is surely reffering to the player). |

one of Meizo's rumors goes like that:
"I've heard about greatly enchanted weapons
that can transform you in a beast or in a spirit..
Or even more allow you to become not wisible to other humans.
I dont know if all those rumors are true but if you manage
to keep me one of those things I could pay you very well."
bolded fragments were probably meant to be as follow:
-> into a beast or a spirit
-> get me |
