Diablo Expansion: The Rebirth is to intend as a MOD or a TOTAL CONVERSION, and not as real expansion. We used to call it "expansion" to give the idea that this project wants to give another chance to Diablo's world by expanding it, and going beyond the "mod" limitations by expanding resources and data files: but it still remains a "big mod". In order to play this mod/tc/exp you need to own the Diablo's cd-rom, published by Blizzard Entertainment.
This project is free and no-profit (making donations is possible, and all the money [if any] will be used exclusively to maintain the project.). All rights are reserved by Blizzard Entertainment for the original Diablo and Battle.Net, and Diablo Expansion: The Rebirth is not affiliated and/or supported by Blizzard Entertainment.
So, what Blizzard should think about this project? Here are the related extracts from Blizzard's Legal FAQ:
Can I do a total conversion of your games? "Yes. We've seen some very polished and fun conversions for our games, and have no problems with total conversions so long as they are for personal use and do not infringe our End User License Agreement included in our games, nor the rights of any other parties including copyrights, trademarks or other rights. " How does Blizzard feel about StarCraft Total Conversions, or Diablo mods? "We've seen some very polished and fun conversions for our games, and have no problems with total conversions, so long as they are for personal use and do not infringe our End User License Agreement included in our games, nor the rights of any other parties including copyrights, trademarks or other rights. It's very important to say that hacks, cheats and any sort of exploitations won't be allowed for any reasons. Please don't use any of them, in order to keep a clean and challanging game.
